Victory Medals

At the conclusion of the Great Patriotic War, the Soviet Union established three medals to commemorate the heroic effort of the Soviet peoples in this conflict.   The Comprehensive Guide to Soviet Orders and Medals gives the approximate number of these medals issued as:

   Victory over Germany                                 14,900,000
   Victory over Japan                                        1,800,000
   Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War       16,100,000
 
Victory Over Germany

     
The script on the front of the medal says "Our Cause was Right" and "We are Victorious". The reverse side says "For Victory Over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945". 


 Victory Over Japan

    
 The script on the front of the medals reads "Victory over Japan" and the reverse give the date of September 3, 1945.
  
  
 Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War

                
 The script on the front of the medal says "Our Cause was Right" and "We are Victorious". The reverse side says "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945". This medal has a hammer and sickle insignia on the reverse side while the other two do not. The insignia reminds the recipient that the valiant labor was performed under the guidance of the Communist Party.
